Vietnam Conflict The Vietnam War was a Cold War-era conflict that started in 1946 and ended in 1974, taking nearly 30 years to resolve. The war was fundamentally a conflict between North Vietnam and South Vietnam, where the North was communist and South was not. The United States, France, the United Kingdom and other non-communist allies supported the non-communist South Vietnam. China, Russia (USSR), Cuba, Cambodia and other Communist allies supported the regime in the north. North Vietnam saw the United States involvement in the North as foreign aggression, so they fought guerilla wars against the anti-communist forces in the region. Guerilla forces (the Viet Cong) and the regular North Vietnamese Army were responsible for fighting the anticommunist forces. The conflict mainly consisted of small battles until the onset of air attacks -- part of an overall strategy of massive bombing and search-and-destroy operations, which South Vietnam and the Americans hoped would win the war. During the 1950s, US advisors were sent to French Indochina or what is South Vietnam (Eckhardt, 1991:6). Because of many internal conflicts with the North trying to take over the South, U.S. increased their involvement in Vietnam in the 1960s, nearly quadrupling the number of American troops in South Vietnam during 1961 and in 1962 (Hayes, 2014). Kia Wells Eng 102 20 September 2013 â€Å"The Road Not Taken† By Robert Frost The poem â€Å"The Road Not taken by Robert Frost was published back in the year of 1916.The poem was printed in Italics and consists of 4 stanzas. This poem is also considered and known to be one of Robert Frost’s most popular poems. In this essay I will explore The Road Not Taken. I try to fully understand if Frost felt disappointment in his life due to certain decisions that are made. Stanza four of the poem is where the tone of the poem is made clear just from a â€Å"sigh† the poet makes which will be further explored during the essay. The setting of the poem is during the fall season. That is understood from the first stanza and the first line of the poem which†¦show more content†¦In stanza three the poet allows the reader to know the time of day he is traveling the roads. The poem stated â€Å"And both that morning equally lay, in leaves no step had trodden black†. We now know it is morning time and the road is covered in leaves. The leaves tur ned black from steps. As the poem continues, Stanza four is where the entire tone of the poem is made clear. The poet wrote â€Å"I shall be telling this with a sigh, somewhere ages and ages hence†. A sigh can be understood as a good or bad. Or happy or sad. It is safe to assume that the tone is a rather disappointing one or a sign of regret. From the beginning of the poem the poet is talking about which road to take and it clearly shows the difficulty of making a decision. The pathos of this poem is obviously in stanza four when the poet makes a sigh. The reader will automatically have sympathy for the poet making the reader wish there was something they can do to make things better. Overall, in the poem â€Å"The Road Not Taken†, Robert Frost established a disappointing or negative tone. It shows how life’s decisions can be hard and it will create depression, regret and sometimes an emotional strain. World War One was the Deciding Factor in the Collapse of Tsarism in Russia Nicholas II’s abdication in February 1917 marked the end of Tsarism in Russia and the end of over 100 years of Romanov rule. By the time the war broke out in 1914 almost every section of Russian society felt betrayed by the autocracy, in particular the peasants and the growing number of urban workers. The peasants increasingly resented being exploited by the nobility and governing elite, and although Tsar Alexander II had started to make reforms beginning with the Emancipation act in 1861, most of these reforms had little or no effect on the everyday lives of the peasantry. Although the war exacerbated these social problems,†¦show more content†¦It was not until the unforeseen 1905 ‘revolution’ that the governing elites finally realised the urgency to create a class of peasant farmers as a reliable support to the social order against propaganda of left-wing groups. This attempt took the form of two decrees in 1907 and 1910 that broke up the peasant com mune as a binding foundation through the allocation of land to individual peasants and the capability to disband the communes into a number of individual proprietors. But in 1917 a great bulk of the peasantry was still commune governed, though agrarian reform intended at removing this was progressively spreading. It is likely if the movement had continued it would have resulted in the formation of a substantial class of farmers, but was interrupted by the war and revolution. When Russia entered into WW1 the vast majority of peasants were still fighting for their individual land. But it was not a mere desire for land that constituted such a powerful political incentive; the peasants believed they had a right to the land as they had maintained and worked on it. The war also greatly affected the peasants as they bore the brunt of the war casualties after peasant conscription was introduced. The schools of thought are commonly referred to as realist and liberalist. There are various names that they are called, and they can also be split further into subdivisions. At a first glance at this question, my gut feeling is that the United States aims to achieve the same as the liberalists, that of world peace.
